Next week we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week!
During this week, we will have special activities to remind our students about Really Excellent Decisions.
Monday
- Wear Red -Discuss the importance of making Really Excellent Decisions as well as making positive, healthy choices.
Tuesday
- Put on Your Thinking Cap-Wear a cap/hat today as they think about making Really Excellent Decisions.
Wednesday
- Making excellent decisions is no sweat! Get outside and exercise for at least 30 minutes today. Show us what you did here: Padlet!
Thursday
- Crazy Socks Day! – Let’s make crazy, excellent decisions every day!
Friday
- Team Sports Day – Wear your favorite team jersey or shirt. Let’s all “team up” for showing kindness and respect!
Virtual Henderson Happening, October 30th
What would fall be without Henderson Happening? How it’s “happening” will be a little different this year, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be having fun! Save the date for October 30th, from 6 to 9pm. Our PTA organizers and teachers have super fun online games and activities planned for the kids (and parents!). Don’t forget, Henderson Happening is a fundraiser for our teachers. All proceeds go directly to their classrooms to help support creative learning. Our teachers have done a fantastic job this year and have given us so much of their time and resources. Let’s show our love, have some fun, and help give back to their classrooms.

HMES Spirit Wear Online Store Coming Soon!
We are tremendously excited to be rolling out a new online spirit wear store for HMES! Be on the lookout for communication on the store in the next week or so and get ready to place your orders. The store will allow you to purchase different apparel options with the screen print image of our Henderson Hawk virtual learner, but the store will only be open for 3 weeks this fall. You will not want to miss out on purchasing a shirt to commemorate 2020 at HMES. A great option for holiday gifts!. Adult sizes will also be available.
School Café
The Free & Reduce Meal application process is another pandemic challenge facing School Districts across the nation.
We are asking parents to complete the Free & Reduced Meal application for SY 20-21. Currently, School Nutrition Department (SNS) is not meeting the quota for receiving meal applications this year. During the previous school year as of 10/5/2019, SNS processed 21,776 household applications versus 8, 891 applications processed to date.
The district receives valuable funding such as Title I, E-Rate and other funding resources annually based on October 31st Free & Reduced data. All parents must submit a new application every year to receive meal benefits. We need all parents to apply as soon as possible. Save the Date for this Year’s Book Fair! November 9-22
We can’t miss the chance to celebrate reading at HMES! So we’re going virtual with our book fair this year! Mark your calendars for November 9th – 22nd to shop the HMES book fair website for your children’s favorite books. We’ll also have fun virtual events with teachers and families to celebrate reading in our community. Don’t forget, books make great holiday presents! Stay tuned for more details.
