Summer for Georgia Readers Starts on May 3 

Get Georgia Reading partner Renaissance is again delivering thousands of free books—plus engaging daily news articles—to computer and mobile devices. Young readers can search from several different categories and genres, including books for struggling readers and Spanish and bilingual titles. We’re challenging Georgians to read for 1.5 million minutes from May 3 – July 31.

Families in Georgia can register to join Renaissance myON’s digital reading platform (https://getgeorgiareading.org/2021/04/19/renaissance-myon-2021/) beginning on May 3 and already have access to Get Georgia Reading at Home (https://getgeorgiareading.org/2021/04/20/get-georgia-reading-at-home/) a comprehensive online catalog that offers early learning resources for children from birth through age 5 and helps develop skills for students in grades K – 3.

Our partners will again launch GeorgiaSummer.org in May to give every family in Georgia access to this online toolkit.

A Note from the Wellness Committee: We can’t believe it’s already May and we’re promoting our last wellness initiative for the school year, “Summer Safety”! We’ll be showing videos each Friday on Bicycle Safety, Pedestrian Safety, Pool Safety, and Hot Weather Safety. Please review with your child(ren) the importance of these Summer safety topics and be sure to role model sunscreen use, looking both ways when crossing the street, walking (not running) around the pool, ALWAYS swimming with an adult, and drinking plenty of water in the Summer heat. May is an excellent time to review these lifesaving topics with your family! Have a fun and SAFE Summer, Henderson Mill Families!

Meal Boxes  

School Nutrition Services (SNS) is committed to nourishing our students with healthy meals during the last week of school prior to the beginning of Summer Learning, May 31 – June 4, 2021.

SNS has received approval to serve Frozen 7- Day Meal Boxes on Saturday, May 29, 2021, from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at the Administrative Instructional Complex.

Families will receive one box per child and each box will contain breakfast and lunch for 7 days and snacks for 5 days.  Families are asked to remain in their vehicles and open their trunks when it is their turn in line.
