Week 3

August 16 – August 20

I can’t believe we are entering Week 3 of 2021-2022 school year.  I hope everyone is slowly developing a routine and adjusting back to school.  Our staff has been working extremely hard to establish ritual and routines so that we can get busy to the work of teaching and learning.  We are delighted to have your children back at school.  Please support us by reminding your child to wash or sanitize their hands frequently, maintain a personal space and wearing their mask properly.

Carpool Guidance

Carpool

Due to safety concerns, please prepare to wait in line during carpool.  As we return to a routine, carpool will move faster.  Thank you in advance for your patience.

  • We ask all parents to remain in their cars during carpool pickup.

  • We encourage all parents to place your car seats on back right side of the car so that all students can exit and enter cars on the curb.  It is not safe for students to get out and walk around cars.

  • Please pay attention and pull fully forward to the farthest stop so a staff member can assist your child in entering/exiting your vehicle.

  • Please allow time when leaving home for the traffic on Henderson Mill Rd.

  • School officially begins at 7:40 AM. Doors close and there’s no supervision outside at 7:45.

  • Any student exiting a car after the doors are closed should be signed in by a parent by using the QR code.

  • Afternoon carpool begins at 2:30. Carpool students will not be dismissed until after the buses have been dismissed. Carpool ends at 2:45.

  • We ask all drivers not to make a left turn when entering the carpool line.  This impacts the flow of carpool and is dangerous.  Drivers should enter the carpool line by making a right into the parking lot. Please be responsible and respectful to others.

Map Testing

The MAP assessment will be given in Kdg.5 all day next week.  K-2 will be testing Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and Grade 3-5 will continue testing on Thursday and Friday Please be sure your child has a good night’s sleep the night prior to testing,

I Will Change the World By...

I Will Change the World By…

Calling all Creative Henderson Hawks!

It is time to start working on your amazing Reflections works of art and heart!

Reflections is a nation-wide arts competition, sponsored by the PTA. It is open to ALL students and fosters creativity and self-expression. Students are encouraged to submit works inspired by this year’s theme. “I Will Change the World By…” in the following categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. Students may submit pieces in as many categories as they desire!

The Reflections deadline for HMES submissions is Friday, October 22rd! So, put on your thinking caps and tell us how YOU will change the WORLD! It is more important than ever to express yourself creatively. And, you guys know what the A in STEAM stands for – ART – one of the most special parts of being a Henderson Hawk!

Winners are chosen based on interpretation of the theme and creativity – not solely on artistic talent. For the past several years, many of our HMES participants have advanced to both the county and state level of competition. In fact, last year, our students took home first place in the District in many of the categories.

Entry forms and instructions are available on the Georgia PTA website (under Rules and Forms tab):

https://www.georgiapta.org/reflections/reflections-submission-info#80-rules-and-forms

Forms will also be available in the Media Center and in the Art Room in a few weeks. As we get closer to the date, I will let you know how best to turn your submissions in.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Abby Mowinski (Reflections chair) with any questions at [email protected] or text 404.202.6866. I can’t wait to see what your wonderful imaginations create this year!
